EDF vs EDPMS :What's the difference?
EDF reports the export. EDPMS tracks what happens after that. Here’s the difference in simple terms.
EDF and EDPMS are connected, but they are not the same thing. EDF - Export Declaration Form. It is used to report the export. EDPMS - Export Data Processing and Monitoring System. It is used to track the export after it has been reported. The simplest way to remember is EDF = Declaration and EPMS = Tracking
EDF vs EDPMS in one table
| EDF | EDPMS |
|---|---|
| Export Declaration Form | Export Data Processing and Monitoring System |
| Reports the export | Tracks the export |
| Used when the export is declared | Used after the export is reported |
| Contains invoice and export details | Tracks payment and outstanding status |
| Starts the reporting process | Continues until the export entry is closed |
How do EDF and EDPMS work together?
The process broadly looks like this:
Raise invoice → File EDF → Export recorded in EDPMS → Receive payment → Match payment → Close entry
So EDF starts the process and EDPMS keeps track of what happens after that.
Why does the difference matter?
Filing EDF does not mean the export transaction is finished.
EDF only reports the export. The transaction can remain open in EDPMS until the corresponding payment is received and matched.
That is why service exporters need to think about both:
Have I reported the export? and Has the payment been received and matched?
